Craftsman style

In the 1960s craftsman style homes were not particularly popular. In fact, the incredible craftsman style Gamble house in Pasadena sat unsold on the market for about two years. Those days are gone. The craftsman style has come back in a big way and has surged to the forefront of starter home sales as first time home buyers realize what a great house a craftsman style bungalow can be. The first stirrings of the craftsman style came from William Morris in Europe who was inclined to wear a monks robe and be obsessed with medieval design elements. As the craftsman style moved across the Atlantic ocean it changed it's look substantially. Gustav Stickley popularized the craftsman style on the east coast. On the west coast the brothers Greene and Greene put a new twist on the craftsman style by incorporating oriental design motifs. And in Illinois Frank Lloyd Wright developed the Prairie school, which was arguably craftsman style in it's origin.
